The season is so long.  There are so many ups and downs.  In the "Keepers of the Sandlot", Ned says, "At any level it's all the same".  Well, that is really true.  When we would win, we would say, "Great game".  When we would lose, we would say, "We'll get em tomorrow".  There was always tomorrow.  No time to dwell on either one.  Can't get too high or too low.  Keep it simple, at any level, it's all the same.

  1. Bill, it's very true. In our 8-year old machine pitch game last week, we were on the wrong side of an incorrect call by a teenage umpire. It was a very difficult play to call that involved multiple base runners tagging up (or in this case some of them not tagging) and all trying to advance on a fly ball. Rather than sort out the whole mess at the time and potentially embarrass the umpire, I waited until the end of the inning and talked to both the umpire and our player who was incorrectly called out and both understood. They both seemed to appreciate the approach and realize that everyone makes mistakes and that bad calls are part of baseball and life and hopefully it all evens out over the long season. Maybe I will get some good karma out of it for when I make my next mistake.
