Royals game with my former coach Gene Stephenson, Wichita State University.

What an unbelievable play in the Japan/Taiwan game.  0-0 in the 8th.  Sac bunt.  Runner out at first.  First baseman sees runner from first rounding second and headed to third.  One pump and he fires to the LEFT-FIELDER!!! who is covering third.  Every dad, coach at any level, pro and sandlot coach has briefly talked at a practice about, "everyone has somewhere to go" on each play.  This kid did it on the biggest stage for kids.

The commentator said it best, "I'm not sure you practice that, but it sure helps to teach them to think that way".  Great line.

0-0 this game had a little bit of everything, but a lot of defense.

Hope everyone had a great summer.  Bill

Hey everybody!
Welcome to the Keepers of the Sandlot blog.
For the past couple of years, I have had the pleasure of working with parents and coaches on the journey of little league   My personal journey has led me to write 2 books, "The Keepers of the Sandlot" and "The Sandlot Strategy".  The purpose of these books is to help parents relax and enjoy the short period of the "sandlot" with their kids.  It goes by so fast.

My real calling is to encourage and equip parents to coach their kids.  I love to help and find my greatest success in helping others achieve their goals.  Sometimes as a parent and a coach, it gets confusing.   After over 50 years of playing at all levels and coaching kids, you learn a few things that can help.  I am extremely lucky to have played and coached with some of the greatest teammates.  They have helped in both books and are anxious to lend their expertise.  You can go to the web-site, www.keepersofthesandlot.com and see who they are.

Nearly every day, I hear from a parent who needs a quick, "voice of experience and reason".  I love to help and look forward to visiting with anyone who needs a friend or mentor-type.  The blog is a tool to help.

I will post these challenges every week, as often as I can.  I will share the daily challenges that come to me and will benefit those who share the trip with us.

We, the parents and coaches, are the Keepers of the Sandlot.  Together, we can really enjoy the game.

Set the bases and let's get the game going.
